[Baltimore Sun] Armstrong Williams: Hurricane Helene’s devastation is beyond tragic | STAFF COMMENTARY
The tragedy stemming from Hurricane Helene, which has to be one of the worst storms of all time in the United States, shows just how unprepared the Biden administration was. Over 130 Americans have been killed with seemingly no end to the suffering. People affected by the hurricane literally could not do anything. They could not rely on their own government to help them. They are all out on their own, and tragically, many perished because of it. And while I’m not blaming this administration totally, we continue to send billions of dollars to foreign entities around the world. We seem unwilling to make a quick push for more aid to the affected areas. We need real leaders who actually show that they care and can respond quickly when Americans are losing their way of life and not just focus on people who are abroad. Yes, we are a world superpower. Yes, we do have a responsibility and a major interest in ensuring that superpowers like Russia do not win wars. Yet at the same time, we must also do everything in our power to keep Americans safe and secure and not feeling vulnerable. Our hearts go out when we see these images. In Asheville, North Carolina, and throughout the South, our heart goes out to those who have been traumatized. Let us keep them all in our thoughts and prayers and do whatever we can, wherever we are.
